Getting Back to It: Finding Focus and Mindset After the Summer Break

September always feels like a fresh start. The kids are back at school, routines are shifting, and suddenly there’s a bit more space to think about your business (and yourself). But if you’re finding it tough to snap back into focus after a summer of juggling, you’re not alone. It’s completely normal for your motivation to feel a little scattered right now.
Let’s be honest: switching from summer mode to “back to business” isn’t always seamless. If you’re not instantly “back in the zone,” that’s okay. I’ve been there myself every September feels like a reset, but not always a smooth one. I remember one September, after a summer of family chaos, it took me weeks to find my rhythm again. The pressure to hit the ground running was real, but what helped was simply acknowledging that it’s a transition, not a race.
Simple Mindset Shifts
- Let go of perfection. Progress is enough. You don’t have to do it all at once, and you certainly don’t have to do it perfectly.
- Reconnect with your “why.” Remember why you started your business in the first place. Was it for more freedom? To help others? To create something meaningful? Let that purpose guide you back to focus.
Practical Ways to Regain Focus
- Block out one hour for planning (not doing). Give yourself permission to step back and map out the month ahead no pressure to take action immediately.
- Choose one priority for the week. Overwhelm often comes from trying to do too much. Pick one thing that matters most and give it your attention.
- Ask yourself: “What’s the one thing I want to move forward this month?” Write it down somewhere visible and let it anchor your decisions.
